Often referred to as the crossroads of the Caribbean, St. Maarten is located at the northern end of the Lesser Antilles, approximately 150 miles southeast of Puerto Rico. The island is just three hours from New York City and two hours and forty-five minutes from Miami.

On this island, your limits are the sky in one direction and the bottom of the sea in the other. Sail the yacht that won the America's Cup. Motor a catamaran along the mythical line

separating the Atlantic Ocean from the Caribbean Sea. Charter a fishing vessel and set out for giant marlin. Dive. Fish. Hike. Climb historic Mount Concordia. There seems to be no limits other than the boundaries of nature itself.

My wife and I recently visited this exquisite island while catching a yacht cruise in the Caribbean. Though our stay was short, we were able to get a taste of the culture, see the pristine beaches and experience the shopping in Phillipsburg by picking up some unique island souvenirs.

We arrived by air flying over the famous Maho Beach, which is a small stretch of white sand that attracts many visitors. The beach is located at the western end of the runway of Princess Juliana International Airport, thus providing you with a very special experience! For those who love the thrill, watch incoming jets gliding in and landing not far over your head. Or feel the jet blast as aircraft rev their engines for takeoff, but, be careful, as the force can easily blow you into the water.

After a short cab ride, we arrived at the Holland House Hotel in Phillipsburg. St. Maarten has an excellent and abundant choice of hotels, resorts, guesthouses and timeshares. There is a property for every taste, many of which are among the very best in their class, and

center of the duty-free shopping district. The accommodations in this aged hotel have been refurbished and redesigned by renowned architect Johannes Zingerlee giving the facility a European contemporary and modern Caribbean feel. With the renovations, the rooms were small, yet adequate, with all the usual amenities and very comfortable beds.

your options are varied throughout the island. We chose Holland House because of its location and reasonable price.
