Escaping Crowded Beaches

Part of escaping on vacation is precisely that, to escape, to enjoy pure relaxation. Nothing is worse than trying to relax on a crowded beach, filled with seemingly half of the world’s population. When getting away, boisterous tourists are the last people you want to share a beach with. Avoiding this situation is easy; go where the locals go. If you don’t know where to start, we have a few suggestions from several top travel destinations!

Tulum Beach, Riviera Maya, Mexico

Set on the Caribbean Sea, Tulum’s beach is great for those looking to break away from the crowds and enjoy a calm atmosphere. A little over an hour and a half drive from the heart of Cancun’s hotel zone, Tulum was home to the Mayans and the ancient civilizations’ ruins are still standing today. While many tourists are crammed into Cancun’s beaches, travelers can find the same gorgeous setting just a little bit south. A day trip to Tulum not only provides great relaxation, but also a great deal of culture in the ruins and neighboring city. Travelers can also supplement beach going with Tulum’s sightseeing, some of the Yucatan Peninsula’s best.

Volivoli Beach, Fiji

Travelers to Fiji already know beaches are hard to match anywhere else in the world, but as with any other destination, the well-known ones like Natadola, become very busy while less acclaimed ones, like Volivoli Beach, are the way to go. The white sand of Volivoli Beach is a little-known welcomed alternative to all the noise. The deep lagoon waters are offset by gorgeous views of Vili Levu’s mountains, creating a brilliant oasis for beach goers. Travelers looking to take home original souvenirs will find everything they need at Volivoli, as local peddler have stations on the beach selling homemade Fijian trinkets and jewelry.

Hawksnest Beach, St. John

St. John is home to some of the most breath taking beaches in the Caribbean and topping the list is Hawksnest Beach. Set on the northwest coast of the island on Hawksnest Bay, this beautiful beach is relatively unknown. Instead of going to the more famous Trunk Bay Beach filled with day-trippers, take a ride to Hawksnest. Unlike Trunk Bay, there’s no entry fee to enjoy the beach and travelers will have peace and quiet. Palm trees line the beach offering plenty of shade. The reef offshore is an ideal place for snorkelers looking to enjoy some of the Caribbean’s sea life, and it’s only a short swim away.

Makena Beach, Maui, Hawaii

The hustle and bustle of Maui can become too much fro travelers looking for a serene setting. Beaches like Ka’anapali, while illustrious and well known, are filled with people at all times. Travelers looking for a more intimate setting will love Makena Beach located in southern Maui. Hawaii’s lush, green mountains run into the water providing a brilliant backdrop to enjoy while lying out on the pristine sand. There are also plenty of activities to enjoy. Travelers looking to supplement their beach going experience have the beautiful Makena golf course for their enjoyment, running along the coast.

The world is large enough that there are still undiscovered beaches out there—blissful hideaways where tourism hasn’t yet eclipsed the local culture. We are happy that we are able to share a few of them with you!
